EU commercial catches continue to decline, but value increases

Fleet caught approximately 3.4 million tonnes of fish and shellfish in 2022, worth an estimated €6.2 billion 

EU fishing vessels caught approximately 3.4 million tonnes (live weight) of fish and shellfish in 2022, with the annual total representing a new low for the industry, putting it well below 2017’s and 2018’s 4.6 million tonnes and much lower still than the 5.9 million tonnes caught in 2001, finds new estimates from the European Commission’s Eurostat office.
