PTG Frionordica has secured a record-breaking contract with Artec Aqua to supply six advanced heat pumps and seawater exchangers with a combined heating capacity of over 100,000 kW.
This agreement is part of the second construction phase of Salmon Evolution’s land-based aquaculture facility located at Indre Harøy, on Norway’s northwest coast.

“This contract is a significant milestone for us as we continue to focus on the market for land-based salmon farming,” said Johnny Valle, sales and marketing director at PTG Frionordica.
Building on the previous collaboration, where PTG Frionordica provided heat pumps and seawater exchangers for the first phase of Salmon Evolution, Artec Aqua will continue as the primary contractor for the installations in this phase.
“PTG Frionordica’s solid delivery during the first construction phase was a decisive factor in our choice of supplier for this phase,” said Ole Gunnar Lyngstad, project manager at Artec Aqua.
“It’s encouraging to see local companies contributing to the value creation happening at Salmon Evolution’s facility on Indre Harøy.”
Each heat pump has a capacity ranging from 5,000 to 6,000 kW and can heat around 40,000 litres of water per minute. With a coefficient of performance exceeding 12, the units incorporate over 12 km of titanium tubing and 5,000 welds, and weigh more than 20 tonnes each.
“For every kilowatt of energy we input, we get more than 30 kW in return when considering the entire energy system – a very worthwhile investment,” said Arild Vikan, project manager at Salmon Evolution.
“This outstanding efficiency not only reduces energy consumption but also ensures optimal fish health and growth, as precise temperature control is critical to the aquaculture process.”
The first of the six heat pumps is scheduled for delivery in August 2025.
