Scientists, former MEPs, NGOs and artisanal fishers have urged the European Commission to deliver a long-promised roadmap for the energy transition in the EU fisheries sector

The roadmap aims to outline strategies for achieving climate neutrality in fisheries by 2050, a commitment initially made in February 2023.

However, its release has been delayed due to the Commission’s decision to form a support group for the Energy Transition Partnership, despite the urgent need for decarbonisation to protect marine biodiversity from destructive fishing practices.
