Icelandic company Marorka and Norwergian MetaSystems are co-operating to reduce the energy consumption of Norwegian fishing vesseks by 25 per cent. The solution is to harmonise the energy system on board.

Icelandic Marorka and Norwergian MetaSystems are small but ambitious businesses. At Nor-Fishing they signed an agreement where they offer Norwegian shipowners a product which may reduce energy consumption by 10-15 per cent in old vessels and up to 25 per cent in modern ones. "In short, we measure the energy consumption on board and show the shipowner where they can save," says managing director Stein-Yngve Iversen of MetaSystems AS. "Therefore we reduce the emission of noxious gases, and shipowners save significant amounts of money. Icelandic shipowners have already benefited from this system and now we are introducing the technology in Norway," Mr Iversen concludes optimistically.
