Hampidjan of Iceland says it is working on a radical, new, trawl-door design for the pelagic market which would ''fly'' like a plane and be controllable from the bridge with a joystick.
For skippers who fancy lifting off, Hampidjan trawls general manager Haraldur Ãrnason says the door will be like an aeroplane wing, rounded on the top and with controllable fins on the back.
Made of steel and moulded plastic "The trawl door, if it works, will be a totally new thinking in trawling." He adds that it will feature extreme spreading power and be much lighter to tow.
After two years of development they have been pushing the project at full speed in the last six months and, after present tests, they plan to present it formally from 8 August at the Nor-fishing fair in Trondheim.
