Cem Giray is the founder and CEO of Salmonics LLC. Operating from TechPlace, a business accelerator located in the former naval air base in Brunswick, Maine USA, Salmonics develops and manufactures biomedical products from fish blood for applications in research, diagnostics and health.
Cem has always had a love for the marine environment and is devoted to helping maintain its health and balance. His received his Ph.D. in Oceanography from the University of Maine in 1996. His overall educational experience covered a broad range, including fish diseases, aquaculture, marine invertebrate taxonomy, biological oceanography and biogeochemistry. He has worked in aquaculture in Maine, operated his own environmental consulting business and pursued work on marine debris pollution and marine turtle conservation in North Cyprus, and for 22 years worked in aquatic animal health as a partner in an international company in Maine USA, conducting applied research and providing diagnostic laboratory services and vaccines.
In late 2020 he established Salmonics, LLC following acquisition of a Maine-based R&D company, Sea Run Holdings, Inc., and changed his focus toward the utilization of aquaculture salmon blood waste for the manufacture of high-value biomedical products and to provide a value-added return to responsible aquaculture and fisheries.
