Hampiðjan was established in 1934 when Guðmundur S. Guðmundsson, a machinist and foreman at the Héðni machine shop, took the initiative to bring together a group of 12 people to create a company that produced yarn and nets from natural hemp fibers.
Since then, Hampiðjan has grown and flourished, becoming one of the largest fishing equipment companies in the world, with operations spanning 77 locations across 21 countries and employing approximately 2,000 people. The company’s headquarters are located at Skarfabakki in Sundahöfn, Iceland, which houses the main offices, netloft, and central warehouse.
The core of Hampiðjan’s production is based in Lithuania, where threads, knotted nets, and braided super ropes are manufactured, along with fully equipped fishing gear and fish farming cages.
Last year marked two significant milestones for Hampiðjan: the acquisition of the Norwegian company Mørenot and the subsequent listing on the main market of Nasdaq Iceland. These developments present significant opportunities for further growth and efficiency.
Hampiðjan’s 90-year history is a testament to the importance of continuous and relentless product development and innovation, which have always been at the heart of the company’s operations. Customers trust that Hampiðjan’s products and designs consistently reflect the best available technical expertise.
