The University of Akureyri was founded in 1987 and has quickly and steadily grown since that time. Fisheries Science at the University of Akureyri is an interdisciplinary program that has been taught since 1990. A study in Fisheries Science provides a good foundation for management work in all branches of the fisheries and seafood industry. Students in fisheries science acquire knowledge about ocean ecology. Knowledge about the main fishing and processing methods, about business operations and about the importance of markets and marketing. The program is diverse and unique in the Icelandic curriculum.
