Pelagic vessels Víkingur and Venus were delivered to HB Grandi in 2015 to replace four older vessels and the company went back to Celiktrans for its three new-generation Nautic-designed demersal vessels, with Engey already delivered and about to start fishing, and Akurey and Viðey are making rapid progress towards completion.
Celiktrans made its first appearance at IceFish in 2014 and will be back this year, building on what the yard has already achieved in Iceland.
According to Volkan Urun at Celiktrans, the Nordic region is where the yard is placing its efforts in reaching new customers and a presence at IceFish is a key part of this strategy.
“We are looking to Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Denmark and Norway as where we see potential,” he said. “In Iceland around a quarter of the new additions to the fishing fleet are from our yard, so we have a strong track record and we are a step ahead.”
He added that for a shipbuilder the three-year interval is ideal. “In 2014 we had Víkingur and Venus under construction, and at the 2014 IceFish we signed the contract for the three fresher trawlers. So by the time of this year's exhibition we already have two pelagic vessels with two years of operation behind them, one fresher trawler fishing and another about to start. That shows very clearly that we are capable of delivering quality fast,” he said.
“This year we are also establishing a boatyard which will be opened by September this year by the south-eastern part of Turkey, and we will also be in the yacht building/berthing business by 2018.”
