“Before that our parent company, Egersund Trål in Norway, took part in the exhibition every three years. Since Egersund Ísland was established in 2004, they've been there to support us,” said Stefán Ingvarsson who manages Egersund Ísland, based at Eskifjörður.
The company is located in Eskifjörður in the east of Iceland, close to key fishing grounds for capelin, herring, mackerel and blue whiting, and specialises in pelagic gear, but has recently been expanding into supplying the growing salmon sector.
There´s a lot going on, with salmon farming starting in Reyðarfjörður next year and expanding in Berufjörður, plus there are more licences being applied for,“ he said.“We have already supplied many of the existing operations with gear from Egersund in Norway, and we have our parent company's long experience and expertise in this behind us. We can supply everything needed, including cages and anchors, even feed barges. That means we can provide complete installations, so all the customer needs to do is bring the salmon.”
“The exhibition is important to us and we'll be there again next year. We don't always have something new to show, but there's always some development that helps make fishing or gear handling easier. We don't need to be constantly re-inventing the wheel so even if there are no big innovations to show, it's an important meeting point where we get to catch up with our existing customers and meet a few new ones. It's the best place to be to get the feel of what's going on in the industry,” Stefán Ingvarsson said.
