“They have been behind us right from the inception of the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition in 1984 and we are naturally very pleased to be able to continue this longstanding co-operation with Icelandair Group whose daughter companies are Icelandair, Iceland's premier air carrier which has an excellent network of routes linking North America and Europe with Iceland for passenger transport, and Icelandair Cargo for freight transport."
She commented that the exhibition continues to go from strength to strength, with the 2017 exhibition promising to be the most impressive to date.
Icelandair has a long history behind it as the national carrier, providing extensive passenger services across its more than thirty destinations. Icelandair Cargo also plays a significant role for the country's fishing industry, providing freight services for exports of ultra-fresh seafood to Europe and the USA. Fish landed in Iceland today can be on someone's plate in Paris or Brussels tomorrow, courtesy of the tailored freight services provided by Icelandair Cargo.
A further link to Iceland's seafood sector is the fact that Icelandair CEO Björgólfur Jóhannsson is no stranger to the fishing industry, having had a distinguished career with fishing companies Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa, Samherji and Síldarvinnslan. He also served in the role of president of the influential Federation of Icelandic Fishing Vessel Owners (LIU) from 2003 to 2008, when he moved on from fishing to take over as the Icelandair Group's CEO.
