IceFish celebrated its 30th anniversary during the 2014 exhibition, the 11th exhibition in the series, which has seen the event more than double in size over the past decade.
The visitor attendance increased by 12% to 15,219 compared with the previous event in 2011 as a direct result of extensive domestic and international marketing and social media campaigns, including Mercator's own International monthly publication World Fishing and Aquaculture Magazine. Inward missions were again co-ordinated between the organisers and overseas Icelandic embassies bringing visitors in from the Far East, Americas and Africa.
A must for all commercial fisheries organisations and associated businesses, the three year cycle of the show is a direct response to the wishes of the exhibiting companies, as it ensures they have new products on display at each event. In addition to the exhibition itself, the Awards ceremony recognizes and rewards excellence within the Icelandic and international commercial fishing industries. Also run alongside the event, the 2nd IceFish Conference, focusing on ‘Fish Waste for Profit', an aspect the Icelanders are in the forefront of mastering. It will address the issues and techniques of how to utilise the entire fish, maximise returns and provide insights into organisations already involved in the process.
