Valka's focus is strongly on high-spec hardware combined with über-smart software to provide highly advanced fish processing systems that meet the needs of an extremely demanding industry.
The company's flagship has been its portioning machine that incorporates X-ray technology to locate pinbones in fillets, coupling this with precise 3D imaging for the size and weight of each fillet and waterjet cutters that slice it into the required pieces according to production specifications.
The company's systems have enjoyed significant success in land-based processing plants, and the next step has been to send them to sea. The first Valka portioning machine was installed on Norwegian trawler Ramoen last year and a dual-lane portioning machine is now is use on new Icelandic factory trawler Sólberg.
It's a big step, placing this complex technology in a moving environment, but Valka is confident that its equipment allows fishing companies to take processing at sea to a new level by adapting this sophisticated technology to a trawler's factory deck. Valka will be showing its X-ray portioning technology at this year's IceFish Exhibition, and the company has been a regular exhibitor at previous events, including taking the award for the Outstanding Processing Supplier at the 2014 IceFish exhibition.
“Valka has participated in every Icefish exhibition since 2004,” said the company's marketing manager Ágúst Sigurðarson.
“As a growing company this event has proven very important for us in connecting to the people across the whole industry. The atmosphere at the show is especially good and and we've been very pleased with the quality of the visitors and the unsparing amount of time they spend with us.”
