This year Morgère is leaving the location at the quayside in Saint Malo that it has occupied for a almost a century, and on 1 September production starts at a new production facility a few kilometres away. The move also provides opportunities for manufacturing systems to be updated, with new CNC machinery currently being installed.
Also this year, Michel Dagorn, who has managed Morgère since 2009, plans to retire and he and Pascal Reverseau are currently working side-by-side to ensure a smooth handover.
“We also have new products in development and we’re looking forward to showing these to our customers at IceFish,’ he said.
Represented in Iceland by Ísfell, Morgère’s Exocet and Osprey doors are already well known among Icelandic skippers, who appreciate the robustness and stability of these versatile trawl doors.
The demersal Exocet doors have performed well since they first hit the market, and these have been refined with an enhanced curved profile, providing optimum spread while minimising drag to keep fuel consumption down. Low-drag Osprey semi-pelagic doors also return outstanding results and are ideal for the fishing patterns of Icelandic groundfish trawlers.
“This really is a special year for Morgère, with a new factory, new products on the way – and a new director,” Pascal Reverseau said, commenting that joining the business at this time with all the current restrictions has also been a challenge – but an interesting one.
IceFish is also something of a milestone, as it’ll be his first international fishing industry event since joining Morgère.
“For months we haven’t been able to meet our customers around the world. So we are delighted that at IceFish we’ll be able to meet our partners and our customers, where we’ll also be able to present new products. Morgère has always worked closely with skippers on developing our trawl door designs, and our customers also appreciate that we are always ready to provide advice and technical assistance,” he said.
“So we are certainly looking forward to IceFish.”
