Designed by Skipasýn and built at the Astilleros Armon shipyard in Vigo, Icelandic company Nesfiskur’s new factory trawler Baldvin Njálsson GK-400 is big step up in capacity and technology over the older trawler it replaces.
The new trawler has a 65.60 metre overall length and a 16 metre beam, providing greater deck, factory and fishroom space compared to the previous vessel. Nesfiskur went to naval architect Skipasýn to design their new trawler to meet their requirements for more efficient operation and more economic running, and Spanish shipyard Armon was selected as the builder.
Once the planning and preparation were completed, Armon’s Vigo yard built the new Baldvin Njálsson in only fifteen months. A number of other Spanish companies supplied systems for the new trawler, including the all-electric deck equipment systems from Ibercisa and the factory deck which was outfitted by Optimar’s Spanish branch.
“Armon is very proud to have built this vessel for Nesfiskur, taking into account that both Nesfiskur and Armon are family companies, the relationship and collaboration throughout the whole project has been the main ingredient in achieving a very successful end product,” said Armon’s Ricardo Garcia.
“Results on sea trials surpassed everyone’s expectations. We would like to wish full cod ends and safe trips to the crew of Baldvin Njálsson. We look forward to greeting visitors on our stand at IceFish next year, where we will be showcasing all of our latest deliveries, including Baldvin Njálsson.”
