Norway’s Hoseth Technology will use IceFish 2024 to showcase raw material handling systems and machinery that it is supplying to both the aquaculture and whitefish industries. Championing the notion that “fish that are well cared for taste better”, its advanced technologies and focus on quality and fish welfare have resulted in solutions that improve both efficiency and end-products.
According to the company, by utilising its timeline software and Al HoT smart cam solution, it has created smooth and clear processes. Furthermore, its systems enable data capture and storage, which can be used for the further optimisation of processing plants.
Systems are provided to both sea-based and land-based farming, as well as logistics modules for ships and trucks, and sections for the primary processing of fish.
Hoseth Technology has also developed a Harvest Pre-Chill System – designed to contribute to higher quality on end-products for customers. The process involves cooling live fish using chilled, clean seawater.
Focusing on fish welfare and proper raw material treatment in the early stages, the system ensures easier cooling of larger fish, as blood circulation in a live fish facilitates better heat transfer from the fish’s core. This process improves the welfare of the fish and makes further processing easier. For example, blood vessels in the gills retract, resulting in less blood in the fillets.
The company said this system offers a number of advantages over traditional methods, including:
- · Reduced need for ice, resulting in less meltwater in boxes and lower air freight costs
- · Better fillet quality with less gaping, longer shelf life, and uniform texture
- · Less need for cooling in bleeding systems, resulting in less blood water handling
- · More independent processing in terms of size on the fish
At the same time, Hoseth Technology has extensive experience in bleeding and cooling fish in HeliX tanks, using its Super Chill solution to achieve core temperatures below O°C. This system, similar to other HeliX systems but with a circulation system connected to a brine solution, ensures a controlled super-cooling effect and low temperature on the fish without crystallisation.
