Contract signed at IceFish with coldstore delivery expected in 2025

Skinney-Þinganes fishing company in Hornafjörður, Iceland, has signed a contract with Kælismiðjan Frost for the construction of a new cold storage facility.

Following the contract signing at IceFish 2024, Kælismiðjan Frost will be responsible for the design and installation of new freezing and drying equipment, Kælismiðjan Frost CEO Guðmundur Hannesson confirmed.

The new cold storage will have fully automatic racking systems and will be able to receive pallets and drive them automatically to storage without human intervention. It is expected the facility will be in use by the end of 2025.

Commenting, Bjarni Ólafur Stefánsson, Director of the Skinneyjar-Þinganess pelagic department, said it will be a breakthrough for the company.

“We are building a new cold storage mainly for our pelagic processing, which will also be used for the flounder processing. The company’s plans are actually to build a house that will be a large rack system,” he said.
